The Epilepsy Research Institute
We serve as the central hub for the epilepsy research community. Our mission is to radically advance research into the causes, prevention and treatment of epilepsy and associated conditions for 1 in 100 people living with epilepsy. The Institute aims to strengthen the epilepsy research ecosystem by driving strategic investment and developing partnerships and collaborations between academia, the NHS, industry, funders, patient groups and people affected by epilepsy. Advocating and actioning the research priorities of people affected by epilepsy is central to our work.

One in 100 Campaign
In the UK, One in 100 people live with uncertainty, live with fear – live with epilepsy.
30% experience uncontrolled seizures and 50% have no known cause for their condition.
Tragically, there are three epilepsy-related deaths every day in the UK.
There are over 100,000 emergency hospital admissions each year due to epilepsy, and an annual cost to the NHS of £2 billion per year.
Epilepsy is also estimated to cost the UK a further £1·7 billion (0·07% of UK’s 2019 grossdomestic product), more than half of which is due to lost productivity. Despite this, the UK government spend per patient population for epilepsy is only £21 per person, compared to £97 for dementia and £234 for Parkinson’s disease.
It’s time to change these numbers for good. The One in 100 campaign is calling on the epilepsy community, funders, government, pharma and key stakeholders to unite in our mission to…
Raise awareness for the One in 100
Accelerate investment for the One in 100
Advance research for the One in 100.
There’s strength in numbers.Only by working together, can we drive forward meaningful change and make a real difference for those affected by epilepsy. We need your support – your donations, your campaigning, your advocacy – to ensure we can deliver the breakthroughs our community needs and radically advance research for the One in 100.
